Review of TVS Wego Scooter (110 CC)
Specification Breakdown and Analysis:
Overview: TVS is in the scooter business for a long time (Source). The TVS Wego is one of the most popular in India and probably the best selling scooter in India. It was first launched in 2009 at the same day as TVS Wego with automatic gears. This is a 110 CC scooter with wider and bigger tires than any Indian manufactured scooter of this segment. The scooter has a decent styling to it. Let’s see what else it has to offer.
Engine: The New TVS Wego is powered by a 110 CC single cylinder, 4 strokes, air cooled and spark ignition engine. The cylinder has 53.5 mm bore and 48.8 mm stroke resulting 109.7 CC of piston displacement. The compression ratio used is 9.3 : 1 which is ensures the longevity of the piston hence engine considering the available gasoline quality in Bangladesh.
The engine is feed through a Keihin AV1 Carburetor with a decent 5 Liter fuel tank. The engine is equipped with Double polyurethane foam filter element as air filter for its breathing. The engine has a Forced wet sump Lubrication mechanism for it lubrication. This results in 8 HP of peak power at 7500 RPM and 8 NM of maximum torque at 5000 RPM. This might looks not so impressive but when this it hooks on to vehicle kerb weighted 95 kg it becomes very impressive. The Wego has an Electric starter and a basic kick starter.
Transmission: The TVS Wego is mated with a CVTi system or Continuous Variomatic Transmission which is a belt driven system. The scooter has no gears but a Dry – Centrifugal clutch which triggered when rear brake is applied. The belt is fitted with two spring fitted pulleys that regulates itself to maintain the maximum wheel revelation to given throttle input.
Design: The 2017 TVS Wego is an attractive looking scooter. The front of the scooter looks somehow like a head of an animal. The perking lights and turn signals setup looks like eyes. The scoop for the horns to fit it looks like nuzzle. The headlamp setup looks like a forehead of that cute looking animal.
The handle bar grips take the place of ears in this case. The dual tone paint job is beautiful. The Orange Wego looks like a Dear from the front. The graphics gives a refreshing look. Light guides glow continuously when “Twilight Switch” is on and 3 additional LED’s glow during braking. The seat is wide and specious.
The whole body is metal. The pillion grab rail has some space for some luggage to strap on. The Fuel fill is in the back of the scooter which is very efficient, safe and looks cool too. The transmission cover has TVS branding and the exhaust has a chrome finished CVTi branded heat shield on it. The hand gloves box looks spacious. Over the entire scooter looks compact and well finished.
Instrument console: The TVS Wego has full digital instrument console. The console is somehow similar to the 2011 Phoenix 125 but seems bigger. However, the console is a huge unit and easy to read. The whole console is under a clear lens shield. The console has speedometer, an odometer, a trip meter, a fuel gauge, low battery indicator, service indicator. There is an economy indicator and a power indicator to help the rider to get the maximum efficiency from the scooter.
Switch Gears: The switch gears on the TVS Wego are pretty standard and rather of good quality. It has a high beam flasher, an electric start switch too. The grips are soft and feel good in hand.
Electricals: The TVS Wego uses a 12 V maintenance free battery and an Fly wheel magneto, 12V, 80W generator. The bike uses a Digital DC CDI cum TCU system and Champion PRZ9HC/BOSCH UR4AC spark plugs. The Bike has bright 35/35 W Multi reflector clear lens AC head lamp, 5/21 W tail/ Brake light and each 10 W clear lens turn signal light.

The TVS Wego has overall length of 1735 mm, width of 657 mm, height of 1065 mm and ground clearance of 135 mm, wheel base of 1230 mm. The wet weight (with tool kit & 90% of fuel) of the bike is 95 kg. The steering and Caster angle is 90° & 25◦. These mean that the bike has an average footprint in terms of dimensions.
Suspension: The TVS Wego is equipped with Telescopic hydraulic at the front and Taggle link, hydraulic dampers with triple rated spring shocks at the rear which are mounted on the single sided swing arm that is mounted directly to the engine. These suspensions do their best for soaking up all the bumps of all kind roads with even a pillion in the back giving the rider and the pillion a comfortable ride.
Brakes & Tires: The TVS Wego uses a 110 mm drum at the front and a 110 mm drum at the rear. A disk brake is offered as option. The tires sizes are 3.00 X 12 at the front and 3.00 X 12 at the rear where both are tubeless and offers great amount of grip and confidence regarding its size.
Performance: The Wego is a 110 CC bike and has a top speed around 80 Km/H and mileage claim of 55-60 Km/L.

Comfort and Handling: The TVS Wego is a scooter, so we should not expect much in terms of handling. But we will be surprised the way Wego handles. The 12 inch wheels do give it more room for handing. TVS says it is actually 20% more stable in low & high speeds. Then the Synchronized suspension with a High pressure Nitrogen Gas charged rear suspension for superior shock absorption which gives an outstanding riding comfort in any road condition. So the comfort is no problem. Seating position is comfortable too.
